A DOZEN EGGS, PLEASE

(Just be thankful that it was just now I made an 'egg' joke!)

The retrieval went just fine! It was a little nerve-wrecking, but we were in a nice room and Walter got to stay with me til I was wheeled down the hall and he was there when I woke up.

Fun fact: At this point I was excited for the retrieval for more than one reason. My ovaries were swelling and I was so bloated it was hard to breathe. A typical ovary is the size of a small walnut... my ovaries were EACH the size of a large grapefruit (about the size twins at 24 weeks in the womb!). My stomach and I had seen better days.

As soon as I woke up, these women know how to put one at ease, they told me they retried 12 good, mature eggs. Fabulous, since their goal was 10. I also got a water jug. For those of who who do not know I've been whining about how bad I wanted one of these for awhile. I just think it will be super helpful during this time where water consumption is a MUST.

I requested to only have half of the eggs retrieved fertilized a long time ago. Something that was a struggle for us to have approved. It's a risk, but it was worth it to share our faith and our beliefs on life.

Later we got THE call.

12 eggs.
1 egg not approved for fertilization or freezing. It was discarded.
5 eggs were frozen Tuesday at 2PM.
6 eggs attempted fertilization, all but one did.

WE HAVE FIVE EMBRYOS! FIVE LITTLE WALLHEIMER BABIES!

Two will be transferred either Thursday or Saturday.
The other three will be frozen for a later date/decision.

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am to bring my babies home.

  1. I can't believe it worked so quickly! My husband wants me to consider IVF but I'm soooo skeptical. it's so extremely expensive and there is no guarantee. what if you go through all of that for nothing? how do you even pay for it?? i'm so anxious to hear how it works out for you!!

  2. It was a very hard decision for us to make Stephanie. But after so much waiting, and hoping, it is worth the risk. Even though I still do not know I'm pregnant, I'd do it all again for the chance. It's more painful and scary to be childless.
We were extremely lucky and were blessed with an insurance company that DID cover it! However, we did not find this out until we were already in the process, we were going through either way! And my mom is very supportive and helpful as well.
Will be praying for what is best for your life!
